About Us

I started Grumpy Wings Flying Club with one simple idea: flying should be accessible to every pilot, no matter where they are on their journey. My name is Jenaro Roberts, and like many private pilots, I found myself at a crossroads after earning my certificate. I wanted to keep progressing, to fly high-performance and multi-engine aircraft, and maybe even chart a path toward the airlines. But unless you had the money to buy your own plane or the willingness to submit to the rigid structure of a traditional flight school, the options were few and far between.

When a Pilot Signs Up for the Club

Here’s What They Get

1. Affordable Access to Advanced Aircraft

At Grumpy Wings Flying Club, we believe flying should be both accessible and rewarding. That’s why we’ve built a fleet that ranges from reliable trainers like the Piper Archer to high-performance singles such as the Piper Saratoga, and even multi-engine twins like the Twin Comanche. With this variety, pilots at every stage of their journey—whether training for their first license, building hours toward an airline career, or simply enjoying the thrill of advanced aircraft—can find the right fit.

Our tiered membership structure ensures that you only pay for what you need, while still giving you the option to grow into higher-performance planes as your skills advance. Plus, all of our hourly rates are wet rates, which means fuel is included and there are no hidden surprises. By sharing the costs of ownership and maintenance across the club, members get access to a diverse fleet for just a fraction of what it would cost to buy and maintain even a single aircraft on their own. In short, you fly more, spend less, and enjoy the freedom of having the right aircraft for every mission.

2. A Nontraditional Pathway to the Airlines

For many aspiring airline pilots, the traditional path through flight schools and training academies can feel rigid, expensive, and overwhelming. At Grumpy Wings Flying Club, we’ve created a different way forward—a nontraditional pathway that still gets you where you want to go but allows you to keep control over your journey. We provide access to the exact aircraft you need—trainers, high-performance singles, and multi-engine planes—so you can build the right hours and gain real-world experience without being tied to a school’s one-size-fits-all program.

This flexibility is what sets us apart. Whether you’re a private pilot just beginning your journey, working toward your multi-engine rating, or strategically building time to meet airline minimums, you can progress at your own pace while saving significantly compared to traditional training models. Our structured programs, bulk-hour discounts, and community of like-minded pilots give you the support you need while still letting you choose how and when you fly. With Grumpy Wings, you’re not just checking boxes—you’re gaining the kind of hands-on experience and confidence that will carry you through to your first airline cockpit.

3. A Community of Passionate Aviators

At its core, Grumpy Wings is more than a flying club—it’s a family of aviators who share the same love for flight. This isn’t just about logging hours or building time; it’s about belonging to a community where every member values safety, camaraderie, and the joy of aviation. Whether you’re an airline captain looking to reconnect with your roots, a private pilot seeking new adventures, or a student pilot chasing your first solo, you’ll find a place here.

Our members come from all walks of life but share a common bond: the passion for flying. We host events, safety seminars, and fly-ins that not only help sharpen skills but also strengthen friendships. More than just a place to rent an airplane, Grumpy Wings offers mentorship, networking, and the kind of support that only comes from being surrounded by people who truly understand why we fly. By joining us, you’re not only gaining access to aircraft—you’re stepping into a community that celebrates aviation and makes the journey more rewarding at every stage.
